The Role:

As a Senior Strategist, you will collaborate with designers, technologists, and program managers to envision and create new products, services, and experiences. You will work across every stage of the product development lifecycle to ensure that the concepts and design decisions are sensitive to both the needs of users and our clients’ businesses. You will be especially involved at the earliest stages of projects where we conduct research to understand user needs and develop ideas for new experiences. You will formulate clear hypotheses or approaches based on ambiguous information, then later validate these hypotheses in collaboration with the design team. You should be eager to involve clients in the design process, be highly responsive to feedback, and excited to present the team’s ideas in front of executives.

You will receive warm and robust support from frog strategy leadership, but you will often be the only strategist on your team. You should be comfortable working independently and able to make thoughtful decisions with limited information. You should be able to take the next key steps while simultaneously considering the broader context of the engagement, the client’s business, and the world.

As a Strategist in our San Francisco strategy team, you’ll be working with cross-functional project teams within frog across all projects and be responsible for:

  • Synthesizing market research with insights on opportunities, forming quickly POV on market dynamics, competitors, and white spaces.
  • Developing financial analysis and strategic assessments of client’s existing operations.
  • Owning design and planning of qual and quant research, conducting interviews, and developing insights from research.
  • Owning execution of commercial sizing models across strategy, opportunity areas, concepts, and solution phases; proficient with different business model types (product, services, subscription, etc.)
  • Conducting category assessment, competitive analysis, and projections of future growth.
  • Contributing to the development and definition of innovation strategies.
  • Diagnosing current business models and key challenges and developing new business model propositions to address emerging market needs.
  • Creating well-structured, strategic, and inspiring narratives for entire deliverables, and works with the rest of the team to support the narrative.

You should have experience and a proven ability to think commercially, strategically, and creatively.

  • Creative problem solving. A lateral thinker adept at uncovering the themes and critical pieces of information that can spark game-changing innovations, with an intuitive ability for identify gaps in markets and develop new markets in those gaps.
  • World-Class Presentation Skills. You would be interacting on a regular basis with senior executives and should therefore demonstrate the ability to construct and deliver inspiring and convincing arguments verbally as well as on paper.
  • Contagious Positive Passion. You should get excited by big transformational ideas and be able to infectiously stoke the fires of those around you. You don’t accept the world as you find it but strive to improve it.
  • Strong Opinions. You should be prepared to defend your opinions and perspectives and be able to support them with lateral and insightful commercial and strategic rationale.
  • Embrace Ambiguity. The ability to both handle ambiguity. Our job is to help create a future that is, by definition, uncertain; so, we are forced to face ambiguity on every project.
  • Analytic Rigor: You have been responsible for performing comprehensive financial, business, and competitive analysis across a range of categories and understand how to weave a compelling story out of a disparate base of facts. (Experience in Excel modelling and statistics is preferred). You are skilled at reducing complexity to hone-in on the essence of a business or strategy issue.
  • Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (or equivalent).An MBA or at least 3+ years of experience working in the field of innovation, strategy development or financial analysis - this experience may come through work in strategy consulting, private equity, venture capital, startups, investment banking, or within a corporate innovation team, product management or product marketing.

It would be a bonus if you had:

  • Experience with research, including but not limited to design research, ethnographic research, interviewing, survey design, and data analysis.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver products from concept to launch.
  • An interest in global trends, from culture to people and business to climate, and how that impacts our world.
  • Experience with advanced Excel modeling or other analytics tools.
  • Experience working in a creative environment with designers, and an interest in human centered design.
  • An interest in technology, both extant and emerging.
